Interview done by Nate Foy

Band Members:

Marianna Forino: guitar
Susanna Angelino: bass/back vocals
Antonnella Della Monica: lead vocals/keyboard
Annalisa Barra: drums

NF:  How old were you when you decided to pursue a career in music, and was there any particular musicians or singers that inspired you?

Antonnella:  I was 13 when I started taking the first singing lessons. The friendship in respect of a missing person prompted me to undertake this path and still continues to motivate this passion. I was never inspired by anyone in particular, but in this last period, I have been inspired by listening to the fantastic voice of Floor Jansen (Nightwish) and Tony Kakko (Sonata Arctica)

Susanna:  I was around 12 years old when I started to play the piano. At 15, I realized that I really wanted to play in a band, but at the time, I couldn't afford another musical instrument, so I started to take singing lessons as well. At about 25, I bought the first bass, and it was love at first sight. The first bass player that inspired me was Tina Weymouth (Talking heads), then I fell in love with Kim Gordon (Sonic Youth), and Sean Yseult (White Zombie).

NF:  Charlotte in Cage is an interesting band name. Which band member came up with this name and what inspired it?

Band:  Charlotte in Cage was founded by Susanna Angelino (bass player) and Mary Forino (guitar player), and they also created the name. “Charlotte in cage” is partly taken by a Kittie song, and was based on the idea to set a girl named Charlotte free from her cage, because of her fears, because of the social contest, and so on and so forth.

NF: Speaking of such things as "social contest," will that be one of the primary themes in your lyrics?

Band:  Absolutely! We have just written some lyrics about the social contest we live in, which is not so open or flexible neither with young people who are struggling to find a job, nor with women. Unluckily we might say we live in a pretty misogyny society and state.

NF: If you could give a message to the world regarding social contest, what would you say?

Antonella: Now we live in a world full of stereotypes. Every stereotype creates barriers that limit us to be ourselves. What I want to say is this: each of us is important. We fight for our ideas that are not imposed; we struggle to break down these barriers. Let us help each other without creating differences and without criticizing. We act together for our happiness and expecially for our freedom.

Marianna: We agree that we want to bring a message against the violence against women and teenagers... a message of rebellion, that cheers up people of every race and gender, so that people who listen to us find the strength to rebel against life's inequalities. We hope that Charlotte in Cage could be a moral support to all those people, because we really want a change in this society, so that everyone can feel the same and be treated in the same way.

Susanna: As for me, i'd like to spread this message to the world: never surrender to anyone and never give up. We all know that the world is going in a rotten direction and is full of hypocrisy and mischief, but you always have to fight for what is right to you, along with the people you care for. If we really wanna change this world, we need to do a little step further everyday with our own strength, without waiting anyone and anything. This is my message.

Annalisa: The most important goal for us is bring around the world a message of peace and freedom. We agree that in our society there are still too many prejudices about the female gender. We wanna help all the people who have been discriminated and give to them all the support. Unfortunately, we see many people that haven't the courage and strength to fight a "war." For this reason we want all people who listen to us to find the light in their darkness. We hope that our music could reach all souls and save them. People should respect diversities not destroy them.

NF:  Onto another topic, what do you like to do with your free time when you are not doing music?

Susanna: In my free time I like walking with my dogs, reading and writing horror stories.

Antonella: In my free time I like to rest after work on the couch and watch my favorite series, go out for a coffee with friends, create accessories  or dresses or designs.

Annalisa: In my free time I like listen to music, write and read books related to philosophy and mythology, I usually go out with my friends".

Marianna: In my free time I like to play, create, do Buddhist meditation, draw, and much more when I can.

NF: When I hear that someone is a writer I have to ask, Susanna, have you had any of your writings published? If not, do you one day hope to be published?

Susanna:  Yes. I've published so far four books and some horror short stories, mostly focused on the vampire figure. Since I was a child, I've always been fascinated from the horror world, thanks to one of my fav writers, h.p. Lovecraft (his short stories and novels definitely petrified and shocked me), and also thanks to Edgar Allan Poe and the master...Stephen King.

NF: As far as music videos go, do you plan on doing some music videos in the future?

Band: Of course! We are actually filming our very first video and another one will come out in February/March, more or less.

NF: Can you tell us more about the symbol used on the band's Facebook page? It reminds me of the Triple Moon, but perhaps it is something different.

Marianna: Yes. The logo was inspired by the triple goddess (or moon), because it's a female symbol and it reminds me of us, an all female band. I've always been fond of drawing mandala or crops circles in my free time, so I added some finishing touches and lines to the symbol, because I wanted to make it magnetic to the observer's eye.

NF: Us fans always like to know things about the band members. How about some favorites. What is your favorite color? Number? Foods? Movie(s)? Book(s)? Aerobic Exercise? Or any other favorites you want to mention?
