N. A. Foy: Tell us a little about Dreams of Agony. What have you released so far?  What are you currently working on?

Dreams of Agony: The band was formed in late 2013 but the whole line-up was completed in 2014 when we recorded our first EP “The other side of the mirror” which was released in February 2015. This year we’ve been working on our first LP “A forgotten tale” soon to be released.

N. A. Foy: If you had a short time to describe Dreams of Agony in an elevator, what would you say?

Dreams of Agony: We are a conceptual symphonic metal band, with powerful lyric voices and careful orchestrations. Not only songs, a full story with the music completely at its service.

N. A. Foy: How old were you when you decided to pursue a career in music and were there any particular musicians or singers that inspired you?

Leyna: Well, when I first knew that music was what I wanted to do in life I was nearly 19, then I started taking singing lesson for the first time in my life. Of course, I was inspired by opera singers but also metal singers as Tarja Turunen, Simone Simons, Liv Kristine, Roy Khan and Sharon den Adel.

Bran: I was 11 when I started listening to the folk band, Mägo de Oz, and I thought: Whoa! I want to be like them. Then I start listening to more bands like Avantasia, Exodus and Gamma Ray. Who inspired me to play the bass was Salva (former bass player from Mägo de Oz). Although I do not have any favorite bass player.

Ruben: When I was 15 years old, I started in the world of music with my first guitar, since I was little my favorite group was Judas Priest and I am especially influenced by their guitarists Glenn and KK, we can also add great musicians like Gary Moore, Brian May , Yngwie Malmsteen, Kai Hansen (Gammaray, Ex-Helloween). My musical influences from my country are Jorge Salan (Jorge Salán & Majestic Jaywalkers, SOTO, Avalanch, Former Mägo de Oz), and Paco Ventura (Medina Azhara, Black Moon)

Arnau: All began with a Christmas present from my uncle, literally "to disturb my parents playing drums". After that, I was sure drums were for me. I started to play drums when I was 10 years old and playing with bands when I was 16. Until that time, I knew that my future was joined with music. My first influence, was Nightwish drummer, Jukka Nevalainen, but currently my best influences in drumming are Gavin Harrison and Anika Nilles.

Jordi: Although I was 13 when I started to play the guitar playing a few songs and jamming with some friends, it wasn’t until I was around 16/17 when I started to take music more seriously: learning to play piano, composing, performing, etc. And to mention a few influences who inspires me to play are Children of Bodom, Stratovarius, Wintersun, Moonsorrow, Rhapsody, Opeth, Symphony X, Devin Townsend, and some classical stuff like J.S. Bach, Vivaldi, and Mozart.

N. A. Foy: What are some things you like to do for enjoyment when you are not doing music?

Leyna: I love reading, I can describe myself as a book junkie, in fact, many of our lyrics are inspired by things I’ve read. Also, I really love make-up and walking in the woods with my two dogs.

Bran: Drink beer, beer and mmmm ....: beer. It's good, no? .. Apart from drinking, I also really like video games, travel, and trying every day to be better.

Ruben: Think about making music, playing the guitar when I'm not doing it ... and drinking of course.

Arnau: I think that we all love to convince Leyna to make us brownies, any excuse is perfect for that. We love brownies. Apart from that, I love reading about science, if music were not my passion probably I'd be studying biology of physics nowadays. Another thing I usually do is buy CDs, I'm always searching for the best offers.

Jordi:  Videogames, reading, movies, practicing, listening to music, and drinking beer.

N. A. Foy: If you were stuck on an island and somehow were able to listen to music, what 3 CDs would you want with you?

Leyna: lf I could just pick 3 I’ll probably choose: “The silent force” (Within Temptation), “Century child” (Nightwish) and “The black halo” (Kamelot).

Bran: Very good question. I would choose the CD's: “Jesus de Chamberí” (Mägo de Oz), ”Especies en Extincion” (Rulo and contrabanda), and “Unholy Savior” (Battle Beast). Oh my God, I change the type of Metal / rock! I am a person who does not believe in labels and I am a person who believes in the union of music.

Ruben: Mmm good question, then “Gaia 2 : La Voz Dormida” of Mago de Oz, “Defenders of the Faith” of Judas Priest, “Imaginaerum” of Nightwish .  But if it's on a desert island, how are we going to play our records? HAHAHA

Arnau: It is really hard to choose only 3, but if I had to choose it probably would be these dissimilar choices: "Century Child" (Nightwish), "Weather Systems" (Anathema) and "Blackjazz" (SHINING NOR).

Jordi: Very difficult question, but probably I would choose, “Visions” (Stratovarius), “The Mantle” (Agalloch) and “Wintersun” (Wintersun).

N. A. Foy: Out of the lyrics you perform so far, is there a particular one that you like best? Is there a story behind it?

Leyna: Well as a conceptual band, when I think on lyrics I create them as a whole story that then is divided in the different songs that form the album. So, they all have a story behind them, in fact, a part of a whole story. The ones I like the most from the EP were “Divine Tragedy” & “Pain for Glory”; from the upcoming album I’d pick “Swords Rise” & “The moon spell” as my favourites.

N. A. Foy: Us fans always like to know things about the band members. How about some favorites. What is your favorite color? Number? Foods? Movie(s)? Book(s)? Or any other favorites you want to mention?

Leyna: Red, number 7 and any type of chocolate. As a book probably I’d choose “The girl with the dragon tattoo” or “Ice princess”. My favourite movies are “Shutter island” and “Who framed Roger Rabbit?”. And as a song “Nymphetamine” by Cradle of filth will be my best.

Bran: Of course! My favorite color is black (although I like white clothes). The number would say 69 (hahaha). My favorite food is black rice (with octopus ink, squid and shrimp), and ham, and cheese pizza. My favorite movies are: “The Dark Knight,” “Sweeney Todd,” and “Interstellar.” A book? One with many pictures and little text lol. Actually, my favorite book is “Christmas Carol” (Lewis Carrol) for the message it conveys. Always help others! One song I've been listening to lately is "Routine" (Steven Wilson) I love depressive lyrics!

Ruben: Colors:  Dark blue, Black. Food: Pizza, oriental restaurant ... What is reading? JAJAJA mmm “Harry Potter,”  but I am more of Japanese comics, “Dragon Ball,” “Death Note,” “Detroit Metal City”…

Arnau: Black and green, one of the best numbers in the world is number 8. Food is always good, doesn't matter what type. I'm in need to mention my favourite anime, “Steins;Gate,” an incredible science-fiction history of parallel worlds and trips to the past. There's a movie that I have a lot of affection, “The Adventures of Baron Münchausen” is the movie I think that my parents will hate, because I was watching it almost every day when I was young.

Jordi: My favorite colors are green and black, number 8 and for food: Italian, sushi and anything with cheese. For movies, I don’t have any favorite, but, “Interstellar,” “Gladiator,” “The Pianist,” and “Léon” would be in my top. And my favorite books are “The Name of the Wind/The Wise Man’s Fear” and “The Lord of the Rings.”

N. A. Foy: What is the main message you want to give to your fans through your music and example as a band? Is there anything else you would like to tell everyone before we finish?

Arnau: Our music is not a message only. Is an entire world, which is being created song by song, album by album. Probably a message we want to share, is that you can create an immense world if you are working with the exact people, so we think that we are doing now.
And remember, listen to our new album "A Forgotten Tale" and enter to our world, our lives, ourselves.
