N. A. Foy: How old were you when you decided to pursue a career in music and were there any particular musicians or singers that inspired you?

Lisa: To be honest I was already 19 years old when thinking about it. At first, I learned to play the bass but somehow soon after I was singer of a band. Great inspiration for me were the singers Liv Kristine and Sharon den Adel. I started listening to their music when I was 13 and still they inspire me nowadays. Also Amy Winehouse was an inspiring singer.

N. A. Foy: How did the band originally form? How did you all meet?

Lisa: The band was formed by Chris Diefenbach and me back in 2013. We talked to each other and decided to create a power metal project... yeah well, already 6 months later we wrote songs for a melodic/symphonic metal project and after one year, in summer 2014, we decided to become a real band and then the search for the other musicians began. We met Jens through a contact of a guitarist and our current bass player Clemens found his way into the band in 2016. We searched for a new bass player on the internet and he got in contact with us.

N. A. Foy: Do you have any plans to work on new material in the near future?

Lisa: We have indeed. We plan to release a new EP in 2018. Last week we had a band meeting to talk about future directions and plans for live shows. Of course, we will release another full-length in the future but at first we will focus on that EP.

N. A. Foy: How would you describe the sound on your latest album, “Solar Empire”?

Lisa: The sound is bombastic, heavy, and quite versatile. We have heavier songs with fast double-bass passages and also slower songs with a ballad-like feeling on the record. Some songs sound epic and a bit like a soundtrack, whereas others have some progressive elements in it. You can also hear some solo instrumental parts on Solar Empire such as bagpipes, violin, flutes or a harp. We try to keep our record exciting for the listener – from beginning till the end.

N. A. Foy: If you had only a few minutes in an elevator to describe your band, what would you say?

Lisa: Well, HYDRA is a symphonic metal band from Regensburg, Germany. We combine orchestra instruments with a heavy metal sound. Our trademark are fast double-bass passages as well as a soaring pop voice. We like to play with contrasts. Another interesting thing might be that we like to invite guest musicians to sing on our records. In the past, we have worked with Liv Kristine, Henning Basse, Ally Storch, and Zuberoa Aznarez.

N. A. Foy: What are some things you like to do for enjoyment when you are not doing music?

Lisa: Personally, I like to read a book. I also enjoy painting and drawing a lot. Besides this, cooking or a nice gaming evening with friends is on top of my list. From time to time I also do sports, e.g. Tennis.

N. A. Foy: If you were stuck on an island and somehow were able to listen to music, what 3 CDs would you want with you?

Lisa: Well... difficult question ;) I'd go with: - Wintersun – “Time” - Leaves' Eyes – “Vinland Saga” - Within Temptation – “Mother Earth”

N. A. Foy: Out of the lyrics you perform so far, is there a particular one that you like best? Is there a story behind it?

Lisa: Another difficult question, haha. On Solar Empire, the whole album is one lyrical concept. The album goes along with a short story that I have written. It's about two lovers who are living on different worlds. Their love is forbidden and finally has cruel consequences... I especially like the lyrics of 'Horns of Era'Kor'. We have Henning Basse as guest musician in this song. He is a cruel emperor and the father of the main female protagonist. With a threatening voice, he sings that he will capture and kill his daughter. My part is the part of his daughter and I sing of my wish to wreak revenge on him. The chorus is sung by both of us and the lyrics are: “fiends until the end of time, between two worlds, so far away; fiends until the end of time, arming for war”.

N. A. Foy: Us fans always like to know things about the band members. How about some favorites. What is your favorite color? Number? Foods? Movie(s)? Book(s)? Or any other favorites you want to mention?

Lisa: My favourite colours are green and blue. Food... I basically love a lot of different food, especially Asian Food but I'd go with Spaghetti Bolognese. I also love fruits a lot, especially raspberries, strawberries and water melon. Favourite movies... among my favourite movies and series are in no particular order: Iron Man, Lord of the Rings, the Hobbit, Deadpool, A beautiful mind, Thor, Alien, Guardians of the Galaxy, the Walking Dead, Vikings, Outlander, and Game of Thrones. I enjoy reading science fiction and fantasy books. I like the German Sci-Fi-author, Andreas Eschbach, a lot. My favourite book of him is “Die Haarteppichknüpfer”.

N. A. Foy: What is the message that you want to give your fans as an example as a band? Is there anything else you’d like to add before we finish?

Lisa: Hey to all! I hope you enjoy the music of HYDRA. If you haven't listened yet, feel free to go to and check us out! If you like our music, please support us with buying our CDs and merch. We look forward to meet you all on live shows and to rock with you. The fanbase means everything to us and without all of you we would be nothing! Watch out for HYDRA news and also new music in 2018.
